Harvest Surveys

The subsistence harvest of migratory birds has been monitored since the mid-1980's using voluntary household surveys.

The past AMBCC Harvest Assessment Program started in 2004 and relied on collaboration among the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Alaska Department of Fish & Game, and many Alaska Native organizations.

Currently, population sizes of harvested species are monitored through systematic counts from aircraft, boats, and ground crews throughout the State of Alaska by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
